Norgen’s Swab Collection and DNA Preservation System is designed for collection, ambient storage and transport of DNA from samples collected using a swab, including nasal, buccal, saliva, fecal, skin, surfaces, etc. The Swab Collection and DNA Preservation System contains Norgen’s Swab Preservative in a liquid format. The user simply collects the specimen using the provided swab, and then transfers the swab into the Swab Preservative. The Swab Preservative prevents the growth of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria and fungi, and also inactivates viruses allowing the resulting non-infectious samples to be handled and shipped safely. In addition, the Swab Preservative eliminates the need to immediately process or freeze samples and allows the samples to be shipped to centralized testing facilities at ambient temperatures. The components of the Swab Preservative allow DNA samples to be stored at room temperature for over 2 years.

DNA Isolation from Preservative

Swab samples collected and preserved using Norgen’s Swab Collection and DNA Preservation System are compatible with most DNA isolation methods. Samples stored in the tubes have been used successfully with most of Norgen Biotek’s DNA isolation kits and reagents. An optimized isolation procedure is available as part of Norgen’s Microbiome DNA Isolation Kit (Cat. 64100).

Shelf Life and Handling

Permagen’s Dual Volume 0.2 mL PCR Strip separator uses the same magnet configuration as our MSR812 rack above, however, when using the opposite side, the magnets are positioned towards the bottom of the tubes allowing low elution’s to be achieved.  Angled tube holes allow clean area at the front of the well for clean, fast aspiration without the concern of disturbing bead pellets Features include solid aluminum alloy design with hard coat finish for years of trouble-free use, rubber feet to help prevent slipping on work bench, less tippy than common plastic products, and fast separations using any magnetic beads

DNA is suitable for ligations, PCR, sequencing, restriction digestion, or various labeling reactions. In addition, this kit can be also used to recover DNA directly from enzymatic reactions such as PCR and enzyme digestion reactions.

Principle

The HiPure system uses a simple bind-wash-elute procedure. Gel slices are dissolved in a buffer containing a pH indicator, allowing easy determination of the optimal pH for DNA binding, and the mixture is applied to the column. Nucleic acids adsorb to the silica-gel membrane in the high-salt conditions provided by the buffer. Impurities are washed away and pure DNA is eluted with a small volume of low-salt buffer provided or water, ready to use in subsequent applications.

Storage and Stability

The Kit should be stored dry at room temperature (15-25°C) and are stable for at least 18 months under these conditions. If any precipitates form in the buffers, warm at 37℃ to dissolve.
